{Chair transformation Tutorial}: How to paint Upholstery Fabric

A friend of mine give me this wing back chair couple month ago.  We talked about transforming this chair but I didn't have the guts to do it alone.  One fine sunday morning, I decided {what the heck} I am gonna give this chair a face lift.

She used (4) 8 oz. Martha Steward fabric Medium and (10) 2 oz. bottles Craft Smart acrylic paint the upholstery fabric.  After 2 trips to JoAnn Craft Store and Hobby Lobby, I still had no luck finding the fabric medium.  Along the way, I found Simply Spray soft fabric spray paint instead :)

I started by taping off all the wood trims because I want to paint it white later.


You can see progress picture below, after using 1 and 2 cans of fabric spray paint.  I waited couple hours before applying the 2nd coat.

The whole wing back chair consumed 5 cans of Simply Spray fabric spray paint.  Each can cost about $ 14 {before using a 40% off coupon}.  
The last step was painting the wood trims using Annie Sloan chalk paint in Pure White.  Prior painting, I wiped down the wood trims until they were super clean.

Oopss sorry, I wasn't done....I put acrylic rhinestone buttons into the tufting, right on top of the buttons, and secured them in place with glue gun.



And here is my bling bling chair in my dining room...Obviously, my daughter enjoyed her new chair :)

The fabric spray paint doesn't change of how the fabric feel, that's a PLUS for me, coz. I don't want to have a stiff chair to sit on.  The paint doesn't stain my clothes after sitting on it for awhile.  I haven't try to steam it yet, so I can't tell you whether or not the color will bleach.  I'll definitely let you know in a few months how it's held up.

I am so happy I overcame my fear and accomplished one of my 2014 New Year's resolution.
