{Crochet} Bunny mug cozy
Today’s inspiration is from Haakmaarraak.
It’s a bunny mug cozy with fluffy butt.
You’ll need the following materials:
Crochet hook 3.5mm
Button to fasten the cozy
3 colors of Caron Simply Soft yarn (worsted #4): bright pink (A), white (B) and light pink (C).
A white pompom
Stitches and abbreviations (US terms):
ch: chain ; st : stitch ; sl st : slip stitch
sc: single crochet
hdc: half double crochet ; dc: double crochet
This mug cozy has been made for a mug that’s 8 cm in diameter and 9,5 cm in height. You can easily adjust this to a mug of any size by simple altering the amount of chains in the starting chain or to add a couple of extra rows.
Basic cozy:
R1: with A, ch 44 and join with a sl st.
R2: ch 1, 44 hdc, join with ss to first hdc.
R3: sl st to next st, 42 hdc. Turn work.
R4-8: ch 1, 42 hdc. Turn work. ch 1.
R16: ch 11 (depending on the size of the button. A large button requires more chains to fit). Sl st in the original st.

If you make pointy ears: 1 dc in the next st, ch 3, sl st in the 2nd and 3rd ch from , 1 dc in the same st. 2 dc in the next st.
1 dc in the next st
1 hdc in the next 5 st
1 sc in the next 3 st
2 sc in the last st. Sl st. Fasten off. Leave long tail to sew the ears on the body.
Pompom:
You can make it by wrapping yarn around your index and middle finger together. See the following pictorial from Adventures of DIY mom:
Assembly
To make the ears stand up straight, Kristen @ haakmaarraak uses an ironing stiffening spray before assembly.
With A, sew the button on the cozy. With B, sew the pompom on the back of the cozy. Next, loosely place your ears on the opposite side of the cozy. Make sure the ears are aligned left and right from the pompon and the lower part of the ears is approximately 3 rows from the top. If you’re happy with the alignment, sew them on tight with B.
What do you think?
You can make this Bunny coffe mug cozy in 2 hours. Just a perfect project for Mother’s day gift.
